Prevent High Cholesterol

Everyone is aware that having high cholesterol is detrimental to health, and it's particularly dangerous for those with heart problems, diabetes and obesity. While a healthy diet is the best way to avoid high levels of cholesterol, it can be quite confusing to know just prevent a problem.


Instructions


1. Identify where cholesterol comes from so that you can learn to prevent high levels in your diet. Cholesterol is found in all animal products, including animal fats and oils, meat, milk, cheese and even eggs. While these foods do not need to be eliminated from your diet completely, they should be eaten only in moderation.


2. Substitute animal fats with healthy vegetable oils, such as olive, avocado, safflower or simple vegetable oil. Don't fry your foods, instead bake, broil or steam. Additionally, food producers use animal fats to keep packaged products crispy and fresh, so avoided pre-packaged foods is a key way to prevent high cholesterol.








3. Include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet which contain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which help to keep your body healthy. Fruits and vegetables as well as fish oil and flax seed which contain omega 3, oatmeal, beans and olive oil all help in lowering the levels of bad cholesterol in your blood.


4. Exercise regularly, at least three times a week for 30 minutes each session. Exercise helps to raise your metabolism and burn fat, aiding your body in the elimination of bad cholesterol.


5. Reduce stress. When the body becomes stressed, it released adrenaline which in turn causes the levels of cholesterol in your blood to rise. Try practicing yoga, meditation or other relaxation techniques to improve your health and reduce cholesterol.








6. Get your blood levels of cholesterol checked each year if you are 40 or older, as early detection of high cholesterol is a great way to prevent a problems. Not all cases of high cholesterol are due to diet, as genetics and medical conditions can also play a key role. If your levels of cholesterol begin to rise despite proper precautions, your doctor can recommend ways to resolve the issue before it becomes a health risk.
