Symptoms Of Anxiety In Children

Children with anxiety may have difficulty with relationships with friends, parents and teachers and perform poorly in school. Symptoms of anxiety in children may lead to serious mental health disorders if not treated, and include personality changes, problematic behaviors and emotional outbursts. Consider these facts from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration about the symptoms of anxiety in children.


Wetting


Children with anxiety who were previously potty trained may begin wetting or soiling their pants during the day or night.


Worrying


Children may worry excessively about school, home life and how others perceive them.


Discomfort


Anxiety in children may cause symptoms of physical discomfort that have no obvious cause, such as headaches, stomach aches and muscle pains.


Low Esteem


Children with anxiety may have a low self esteem and feel that they are treated poorly by their teachers, peers and friends.


Withdrawal


Withdrawal from hobbies, activities during or after school or a lack of participation during class is a symptom of anxiety in children.


Clinging








Children with anxiety may physically cling to their parents at times of separation, such as being taken to a care giver or school, or may frequently call parents during the day.








Panic Attacks


Anxiety may cause panic attacks in children, which include symptoms such as severe chest pain, sweating, nausea or vomiting, difficulty breathing, rapid heart beat and feelings that they are going to die.
