What Are Family Health Plus Income Requirements

Family Health Plus provides free health insurance to NYS residents.


According to the New York State Department of Health, Family Health Plus is a free health insurance program available to families living in the state of New York. Family Health Plus is an alternative for families who do not get insurance from employers, cannot afford private health insurance and who make too much money to qualify for Medicaid. In order to qualify for Family Health Plus a family must fall within certain income guidelines.


Family Size


Determining income guidelines for any given family depends on the number of individuals within the family. Single adults and couples without children fall into different income ranges than families with children. For instance, a single parent with a child can make more money and still qualify for Family Health Plus than a couple without children. Each additional family member raises the income guidelines needed to be followed in order to receive Family Health Plus.








Income Guidelines for Families Without Children








A family does not need to have a minor child in the unit in order to qualify for Family Health Plus. The income guidelines are, however, lower for single adults and married couples without kids. As of January 1, 2010, in order for a single adult to qualify for Family Health Plus he must make $903 or less a month. Couples without children need to make $1,215 a month or less to qualify.


Income Guidelines by Family Size


In order for qualify for Family Health Plus, a family of two must make $1,822 or less, a family of three must make $2,289 a month or less, a family of four must make $2,757 a month or less, a family of five must make $3,224 or less, a family of six must make $3,692 a month or less and a family of seven must make $4,159 a month or less. These numbers are current as of January 1, 2010.
