Treat Petrositis

Petrositis happens when the bone that surrounds the ear becomes inflamed. The name of this bone is the temporal bone. The inflammation becomes so bad that it goes into the inner ear and causes infection. This is an uncomfortable and serious condition that can easily be treated.

Instructions

Treat Petrositis

1. Go to the doctor. Petrositis is a serious and rare condition with little research about it, so far. See a doctor as soon as possible to begin treatment for the condition.

2. Drain the middle ear. In order to relieve the discomfort and build-up in the ear, it is important to drain the afflicted area. This can be done through surgery which is often necessary to treat petrositis.

3. Use antibiotics. Petrositis is a rare condition, but the research that has been does shows that antibiotics are effective in treating petrositis. Take antibiotics until the condition goes away.

4. Use ear drops. Some patients respond better to medication in liquid form applied directly into the ear. This medication can be more effective than oral forms of medication.

5. Get a tube put in the ear. Another way to drain the ear is through the insertion of a tube into the middle ear. The tube will help alleviate the pressure in the ear.

6. Use a solution of peroxide and water. Forming a solution of 50 percent peroxide and 50 percent water and dropping this into the ear can help to treat petrositis. This solution will help relieve the build-up in the middle ear and improve the condition.
