Get Pregnant Quicker

While getting pregnant seems like it should be the easiest and most natural thing in the world, it isn't always. Many small but important steps have to occur to make conception happen: The sperm and egg must meet at exactly the right time, the sperm must fertilize the egg, the fertilized egg must travel down the fallopian tubes to the uterus and the egg must properly implant into the uterine wall. You can significantly increase the chance that all these things happen---and quickly.

Instructions

1. Time intercourse properly. You must have sex during your most fertile days of the month (the period during which you ovulate) in order to raise the chances that sperm and egg meet at the right time. Most women ovulate somewhere around the middle of their menstrual cycle.

2. Figure out when you ovulate. You can do this in a couple of ways.

Pay close attention to your menstrual cycle, noting how long it is and what the midpoint is. Once you have figured this out, try to time sex around the five days leading up to ovulation as well as the day of ovulation.

Use an ovulation-predictor kit. These kits test for hormone surges that indicate ovulation is occurring. They are available without prescription at most drug stores.

Observe changes in your cervical mucus. Around the time of ovulation, you may notice that the secretions from your vagina have become more plentiful and slippery, resembling the whites of raw egg. When you see this kind of cervical mucus, it is a good idea to intercourse every other day while the mucus lasts.

3. Maintain a healthy diet. Both women and men should do everything they can to ensure that their bodies are in prime condition for conception, and this includes eating the right foods. In particular, a healthy diet can help women with ovulation disorders ovulate more regularly. Eliminate sugar and fatty, greasy foods from your diet. Instead, eat plenty of vegetables, particularly green vegetables like broccoli, spinach and kale. Also avoid simple carbohydrates (like white rice and pasta) but eat complex carbohydrates like brown rice, whole-grain bread and oatmeal. Be sure to eat fruits rich in antioxidants, like strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and oranges. And don't forget about fiber, which can come from legumes such as chickpeas and lentils, or fruits like prunes. Eating lean meat and fish for protein is important as well.

4. Adopt a healthy lifestyle. Both women and men should treat their bodies right. Avoid smoking cigarettes, which can damage both sperm and eggs. Drinking excess alcohol and consuming caffeine can hinder conception as well. Get plenty of exercise, rest, maintain a healthy weight and minimize stress wherever possible.

5. Have an orgasm. The male orgasm is essential to getting pregnant, however, the female orgasm might play a role as well. The contractions a woman has during orgasm can help move the sperm up into the fallopian tubes. According to iVillage Total Health, a woman that climaxes shortly before her partner might be slightly more fertile because of increase sperm movement in the woman's reproductive tract.
