Reduce Stress With Herbs

Our nerves are bombarded from all sides by situations that provoke stress, but some simple herbal teas or tinctures can help to relax you and can provide a pleasant break from the madness. Herbs are nonaddictive and delicious, not to mention healthful. Some support your body’s functions, like your heart, blood, liver and the frazzled nerves that are responsible for stressing you out in the first place. Here are four different herb tea blends for you to try.

Instructions

1. To make herbal tea, simmer roots, bark and berries in water for about 20 minutes, and then allow the plant material to steep for 10 minutes before you drink it. For leafy plant material, boil your water first in a teakettle, and then pour it over your herbs. Steep for 15 minutes. Strain the tea before you drink it.

2. For a delicious lemony tea blend that can help to reduce stress, combine 1 tsp. of the following herbs in a teapot: lemon balm, lemongrass, lemon verbena, oatstraw, passionflower leaves, rose hips, skullcap leaves and orange peel. Then fill it with 1 quart of boiling water. Stir, cover and steep for 15 minutes. Drink two to three cups whenever you feel the need for a stress reducer.

3. This tea helps you get a good night’s sleep. Combine one tsp. of the following herbs in a teapot: catnip leaves, linden blossoms, St. John’s wort flowers, lemon balm, oatstraw and passionflower leaves. Boil 1 quart of water and pour it over your herbs. Steep for 15 to 20 minutes before straining. Enjoy two to three cups per day.

4. Combine 2 tsp. of chamomile flowers with one tsp. of these herbs in a teapot: red clover blossoms, spearmint leaves, oatstraw, skullcap leaves, violet leaves and flowers and rose petals. Cover with boiling water, stir, cover and then steep for 15 minutes. Enjoy two to three cups of this blend during the daytime or one hour before bedtime.

5. This blend is good for your heart and blood, liver and nerves. Simmer two tsp. of dandelion root in 1 quart of water for 20 minutes. Remove your pan from the heat and add two tsp. of these herbs: hawthorn leaves, flowers and berries, Linden blossoms, oatstraw, red clover blossoms, horsetail and nettle leaves. Steep for 10 minutes and drink two to three cups each day.
