Use A 3 Iron

The 3-iron is sometimes a forgotten club for most golfers. It's a "fairway" iron, which tends to scare most hitters. They don't like the 3-iron's low trajectory and it brings out the insecurities in many golfers. However, the 3-iron can be an excellent club for someone who struggles with the driver and other woods as well.

Instructions

1. Position the ball. For a 3-iron, a good rule of thumb is to play it about two inches forward of the center point between your legs.

2. Using a normal grip, bring the club back. Make sure to keep your forward arm straight and to rotate your shoulders.

3. Bring the club downward by rotating your shoulders and your wrists forward.

4. Strike the ball with club face about dead center.

5. "Lift" the ball forward by continuing your arm and shoulder rotation.

6. Finish with both of your wrists over your forward shoulder and your body facing the direction of the ball.

7. Hit about 50 practice balls from the grass followed by 50 from the tees each day to perfect this stroke.
