Natural Home Relief For Sinus Pressure

Sinus pressure can cause pain and distraction from daily activities, but it can be alleviated with natural home remedies. Applying hot compresses, using aromatherapy and breathing in steam, are all ways to find natural home relief for sinus pressure.

Heat

If you apply moist heat directly to your face with a wet cloth, several times a day, it will help to relieve your sinus pressure. Run the compress under water that is very warm, but not hot enough to hurt. The cloth should be hot enough to provide relief, without burning, when you put it on your face. Place the cloth over your eyes, and leave it in place until it is cool, or until the pain subsides.

Steam

Using steam is a simple way to relieve sinus pressure at home. One quick way to breathe enough steam to relieve your sinus pressure is to pour very hot water into a sink, and then lean over the sink with a towel over your head to trap the steam. You can also close your bathroom door, and turn your shower on very hot. If you use the shower to create steam, do not get into the shower while the water is running hot. You should breathe the steam from the outside of the shower, for your safety. When drinking hot beverages, such as broth or herbal tea, you can also benefit from the steam created by the hot liquids, by keeping the cup near to your face as you breathe.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a great way to relieve sinus pressure. Essential oils, such as eucalyptus, rosemary, and peppermint, can be used in two ways. First, essential oils can be added to the hot water that you use for steam therapy. Second, essential oils can be heated in an oil warmer, which releases the aroma into the air of your room. These oils can be used individually, or in any combination that smells pleasing to you.
