Teenage Acne Remedies

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne is a skin condition in which blackheads, whiteheads and pimples show up on the face, back, chest, shoulders, neck and upper arms. Acne usually begins when an individual enters his teen years and is caused by hormonal changes that happen during puberty. Acne does go away eventually, but it can be an embarrassing and self-conscious time in a teenager's life. There are remedies that can help get rid of acne and prevent it from coming back.

Food

While there are no specific foods that cause acne in all teenagers, many people believe that what teenagers eat factors into acne breakouts. Acne may be visible on the outside of the body, but it develops from the inside. Teenagers who eat fried and oily foods can create toxins in their bodies that result in clogged pores and inflammation, which leads to acne. Waste is eliminated through the skin when people sweat, and a natural remedy for treating acne is to have a diet high in fiber, protein, fruits and vegetables.

Hygiene

A proven acne remedy is keeping up with personal hygiene and washing the face two to three times a day. Because waste is eliminated through the skin, it is important to wash these oils off. This can be done by using a drop of lemon oil and juniper oil in a ¼ cup of mild, unperfumed cleanser.

Vitamins

Taking natural supplements or eating foods high in vitamins A, B-complex, E and zinc have shown positive effects for treating acne. Before starting a regimen like this, contact a doctor or physician to determine the proper dosage.

Herbal Treatment

Teenagers can try diluting a tincture of myrrh in a bowl of water and using a pad or cotton ball to wipe their face with this treatment. Using myrrh on a daily basis has shown to prevent and treat acne.

Toner

Another remedy for teenage acne is to create a natural toner without any perfume or chemicals. A natural toner can be made by mixing witch hazel with chamomile tea, and it should be used after the skin is cleansed. The oils in this toner help protect the skin from bacteria and re-balance the glands.
