Replace the Air Intake Hose in a Car
Air intake systems are responsible for adding air to mix with fuel in an internal combustion engine. Air intakes are one of the most popular performance upgrades available, due to their overall low cost. Learn to replace your air intake hose, regardless of whether yours is damaged or you're looking for a performance upgrade.
Instructions
1. Make sure your engine has been turned off for at least 30 minutes. Pop the clamps from the air filter assembly and remove the air filter.
2. Remove the mounting screws from the base of the air filter assembly (Phillips or flat-head) and set them aside in a safe place.
3. Trace the air intake hose until you find the end that feeds the engine. Remove the clamps or screws to detach the intake hose. Some vehicles have electrical modules attached to the intake hose; remove them, if equipped.
4. Place the new intake system in the engine bay. Mount the air box (don't forget the air filter) where the old one was; you should be able to use the old screws or bolts. Attach the intake hose to the connection and clamp it on. Attach any electrical modules you had to remove.
