Identify Passive Aggressive Behavior

A passive aggressive person does not issue warnings to let everyone know she is passive aggressive. Instead, she often appears friendly and outgoing. As you begin to really know this person, her behavior doesn't make sense. She seems so eager to do favors and bend over backwards to help you. Then, for some unknown reason, she will turn sarcastic and spiteful. With a little help, you will be able to identify if a person has negativistic personality disorder more commonly known as Passive Aggressive Behavior.


Instructions


1. Overextending themselves. People who suffer from passive aggressive behavior normally have a hard time saying no. Even when these people have way too much to handle, they will not say no to friends, family, or bosses. While agreeing to do these jobs, the passive aggressive person does not do them well. She will procrastinate, forget to do it, perform poorly, or lose it. When confronted about her lackluster performance, she will blame others or make excuses.


2. Tries to avoid confrontation. The passive aggressive person makes up lies or omit facts in an attempt to stop a fight.


3. Exhibits excessive forgetfulness. These people are infamous for making appointments and being late or not showing up. People with passive aggressive behavior may get into trouble for being late to work. They claim to forget to do things for themselves and others. They may have bad credit and forget to pay bills.


4. Engages in excessive gossip. People with passive aggressive behavior will avoid conflict by appearing to gossip. Instead of telling her boss how she feels, a passive aggressive person will complain to other people. People with passive aggressive behavior will try to avoid fights with their partners by taking their problems to friends and family. They will attempt to cause friction with other people by leaking hurtful secrets or by spreading gossip.








5. Suffers from many illnesses. Those with passive aggressive behavior literally make themselves sick. They tend to suffer from mysterious stomachaches and headaches. They may abuse alcohol and drugs. They also have higher rates of depression.








6. Unable to interact within normal social standards. The passive aggressive person plays the victim. People with passive aggressive behavior may talk about how they are taken advantage of. They are indecisive and avoid any type of commitment. Many times people with passive aggressive behavior tend to pick arguments and are critical and sarcastic when they are unable to get their way.
