Crafts With Potpourri & Bath Salts

Potpourri and bath salts lead to aromatic crafts.

"Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the mountains," writes Diane Ackerman in her book "A Natural History of the Senses." The sense of smell is powerful and mood altering. Customize crafts that use potpourri and bath salts to include an individual's favorite scents. Use these fragrances to relax, rejuvenate or enhance the scent of your home.

Potpourri Christmas Ornaments

Add fragrance to the holiday with potpourri ornaments.

Potpourri is a combination of dried flowers, stems, seeds, herbs and aromatic oils. Gather oils and dried ingredients that enhance the holiday aroma in your home such as cloves, cinnamon stick shavings and pine cone clippings. Glue loose potpourri to a Styrofoam ball and add a decorative ribbon to hang the ball on your tree. Add glitter, stars or beads to complement your holiday color scheme.

Bath Salt Baby Shower Favors

Pour homemade bath salts into clean baby food jars and hand out as favors for a baby shower. Guests will enjoy soaking in a bath salt-infused tub. Epsom, Dead Sea and Pacific Sea salts provide a base for bath salts. Make bath salts by combining salt with a few drops of essential oils safe for skin. Purchase fragrant oils such as lavender, citrus or mint to create a pleasing scent.

Potpourri Sachet

Create a sachet for under a car seat, in a dresser drawer or in the linen closet to add fragrance wherever you go. Cut 6-inch rounds of fabric and fill the center with potpourri to create a potpourri sachet as a party favor or stocking stuffer. Gather the fabric around the potpourri and tie tightly with ribbon. Use a fabric that easily allows the potpourri scent to escape; linen, cotton, tulle and lace are a few examples of breathable fabric.

Bath Salt Bottles

Food coloring tints bath salts without staining skin or bathtubs.

Layer different colored bath salts in a decorative glass bottle or jar to promote decorative appeal and complement bathroom decor. Pour equal amounts of salt into mixing bowls. Add two or three drops of food coloring and fragrant oil into each bowl. Mix the salts until the color evenly disperses. Using a funnel, layer the colors into the container. Secure the bottle with a lid and finish it with a decorative ribbon.
