Cope With Urinary Incontinence

As an adult, wetting oneself in public is an embarrassing situation. Yet urinary incontinence or the unintentional leakage of urine, is something over 13 million Americans deal with. If you do accidentally wet yourself in public, there are some things you can do.

Instructions

1. Check in with your care provider if this is a new problem or one that occurs more than once. You may have a medical condition that needs treatment. If you do have urinary incontinence, there are many treatment plans.

2. Minimize the appearance of the wet spot. Wrap a shirt, jacket or sweater around your waist to cover up the wet spot.

3. Dry out your clothes. Try to find a bathroom with an air dryer and stand in front of it until the wet spot disappears.

4. Change your clothes if you can't head home. Purchase clothes, change into your gym clothes or ask a friend to help you out. You don't have to tell anyone you had an accident-just say you spilled a drink on yourself.

5. Put on dark clothes when you go out in public. This way the wet spot isn't so obvious.

6. Wear pads designed to catch urine when in public. While these are bulky, it's better than wetting yourself in public.

7. Remember, most people won't assume you urinated on yourself unless you tell everyone; they'll assume you sat in something wet if they even notice it.
