Choose A Pedicure Salon

You've decided that the time has come to pamper yourself with a pedicure and then you think about dozens of other people sharing the same foot bath. Oops, never mind, maybe you'll skip the pedicure and just do it at home! But there is no need to go to that extreme. With just a bit of research and effort, you can eliminate the pedicure salons that pose a hazard to your health and have someone else painting your toes in no time.

Instructions

1. Talk to your friends and co-workers. Everyone will likely have a personal favorite beautician for pedicures, but by asking some quick questions you can eliminate the salons that are a breeding ground for foot fungus and more. Questions you should ask include whether the salon reuses files, if instruments including cuticle clippers are treated in an autoclave and how the foot bath is cleaned after each customer. The bath should be emptied, sprayed with an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent and rinsed to make sure that any backwash into the jets is also cleaned. Then, it should be drained again before being filled for the next customer.

2. Check on prices and ask specific questions regarding what is included in the pedicure. Some spa-type salons will include exfoliation treatments for the calves and even a massaging chair while other will simply scrape off the callouses and paint your nails. Sometimes the old adage you get what you pay for does not even begin to cover it.

3. Ask for referrals from satisfied customers. Some pedicure salons may advertise a great price and appear to do everything right, but it the salon is empty, there might be a reason why. Asking friends for their recommendations can also help you find a professional and affordable pedicure salon.

4. Consider the parking lot and the appointment schedule. If it is sandal season and the salon parking lot is empty, find out why before you go. You may even want to check with your local health department to see if there have been any complaints associated with a particular stylist or salon.

5. Drive by the salon and take a look at the layout. Is the salon in the middle of a busy shopping mall where everyone will see you having your bunions removed? Does the salon have an atmosphere you like? Check out everything from the way it smells to the music they play to choose the salon that is right for you.
