Home Remedies To Treat Eczema

Eczema, also known as dermatitis, is an itchy, irritated skin condition that can lead to infection and scarring if not treated. Areas affected by eczema appear dry, red, scaly, and blistery. Eczema can also affect skin pigmentation.

Management

Eczema can be managed by avoiding allergens that cause or aggravate the itchiness, such as harsh chemicals and detergents, certain fabrics, animal dander, temperature changes and stress. Seek medical treatment if the condition is severe.

Treatment

There is no known cure for eczema. However, there are home remedies that calm the skin's reactions to eczema outbreaks by relieving or preventing the itching. Examples of home remedies to apply to the affected areas are:

* Cold compresses

* Coconut oil

* Oatmeal and water made into a paste

* Witch hazel

* Spearmint leaf juice

* Paste consisting of turmeric powder and bitter neem leaves

* Paste made of camphor and sandalwood paste

* Mashed papaya seeds

* African shea butter
