Basement to second floor air circulation system

Basement to Second Floor Air Circulation system

I'm looking into the pros and cons of this idea. I'm looking to run a circulation system which would include a duct and fan running from the ceiling on our second floor to the basement. In the winter, the fan would draw hot (dry) air from our second floor (which is always warmer then the main, and warmer then the unheated basement. During the summer, the fan would move cool air from the basement to the second floor. Currently the house is heated with a 2 zone hot water boiler arrangement (no A/C), and even with the heat turned down on the second floor, heat rises and makes the second floor pretty warm. During the summer, the basement (poured concrete, below grade) generally holds a ~65'F temp. The house has a pretty decent air flow path, so by using a fan forced duct to move air up or down, it should draw air through the natural path through the house. Any thoughts to this idea? Good/Bad? Suggestions? Bad! You will have to have a pretty big fan and duct to move enough air to be able to see a difference. Then as for the summer goes your basement does not have an endless supply of cold air you will pull that cool air out fast. It would be more circulating the air in the house. Being that it has no HVAC to speak of, the air does get pretty stale. I do think that moving some of the cool (dehumidified) air from the basement to the second floor would help a bit during the summer. It won't be all that cool, but should take the edge off a bit. The basement is ~1345sqft of unfinished concrete. There is a lot of geothermal cooling there.
