Joint Pain Remedies Without Medicine

Joint pain can affect anyone at any age. It is sometimes weather related or the result of an injury, but it is frequently caused by a joint-related condition such as bursitis or rheumatism. Overweight people may suffer more often from joint pain because of the strain the extra weight places on the joints.

Epsom Salt

An Epsom salt bath has been recommended for years for joint pain. Ayurvediccure.com offers this recipe for an Epsom salt bath: "Fill a bathtub with water as hot as you can stand. Add 2 cups of Epsom salts. Bathe for 30 minutes, adding hot water as necessary to keep the temperature warm. Do this daily as often as you'd like."

Arnica

Arnica, in ointment form, is now commonly sold in drugstores and is used for sprains, strains, bruising and swelling due to injury. Arnica helps to repair blood vessels and reduces swelling that can be causing the joint pain. Just rub the arnica ointment on the affected joint to not only relieve the pain, but also to heal the joint area.

Cod Liver Oil

Cod liver oil has been around for a long time and is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Dr. Gabe Mirkin reports that a study conducted in Berlin showed that arthritis sufferers who took 1g of cod liver oil daily for three months had a reduction in pain, morning stiffness and swelling. Cod liver oil is readily available at most drugstores and some supermarkets.
