Liposuction Training

Liposuction training courses teach their participants properly perform the liposuction, with an in-depth look at the surgery. This entails earning a basic and advanced liposuction certificate by taking workshop classes. Liposuction training workshops generally last around two days, but the duration of the training can differ depending on where you are attending the classes.

Identification

In liposuction training participants will learn about liposuction's history and evolution, review the anatomy, patient identification and evaluation, tumescent preparation, watch live surgery cases, discuss home care and follow-up for patients, learn about post-operative care, learn about issues relating to malpractice, learn about physical setups for liposuction suites, get a question-and-answer session and much more.

Geography

Many places around the country offer liposuction training, including Empire Medical Training, Centers for Health Promotion Inc, Liposuction Training Organization, Practical CME, The American Association of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery, the International Society of Cosmetology and many others.

Theories/Speculation

Any licensed physician is technically allowed to perform liposuction on patients, but many physicians societies prefer doctors to get some in-depth liposuction training before they do so. However, no official training is required. It's a good idea to ask doctors if they have had training in liposuction and if they have experience performing the actual surgery.

Considerations

Liposuction training can be pretty costly, but it might be worth it since the doctor will have liposuction training certificates and an even better knowledge of the procedure. An average price for a two-day liposuction training workshop is about $8,000. However, if you look around, you can find some workshops with fees as low as $5,000.

Significance

Other than liposuction training, someone who performs liposuction should have extensive training in surgical methods that lessen infection risk, training in cardiac life support to deal with severe cardiovascular complications, and knowledge of pharmacology related to tumescent local anesthesia.
