Citrine is a beautiful and hardy gemstone. It tends to be gold or yellow in color and it is extremely popular for everyday wear because the stones are lovely but they are also fairly sturdy and do not easily come loose from settings or scratch or chip. As a result of daily wear, your citrine ring may become cloudy and grimy more quickly than your other jewelry. Fortunately, this type of ring is easy to clean.
Instructions
1. Steep your ring overnight in a jeweler's ammonia solution. Jeweler's ammonia is more gentle than regular ammonia and some solutions may require that you "cut" the solution with water to make it even weaker. Place the ring in a safe place in a bowl with the solution to let it work on the built-up grime.
2. Rinse off the ring in warm water the next morning. Make sure to get all of the ammonia solution off of the ring.
3. Scrub the ring gently with the soft toothbrush. The bristles will get into the areas that are hard to reach with a cloth. Do not scrub hard or saw back and forth. Use gentle, circular motions. As you brush the ring, you can allow the warm or hot water to continue to flow over it to wash away the dirt and grime.
4. Dry the ring with the clean, soft cloth. Always wipe the faces of the stones clean and dry rather than letting them air dry. Air drying will cause them to spot, just like the windshield of a car.
5. Clean your ring regularly. If you wear your citrine ring all the time, the best way to keep it bright and shiny is to clean it at least once every two weeks or so. This will prevent build-up and usually you can just use the hot water and toothbrush and leave out the overnight soak.
