1. The primary treatment for hypothyroid is hormone replacement drugs. Hormone replacement drugs come in the form of tablets. The treatment can take up to 6 months to be brought under control and during that time your blood levels will be monitored. This treatment is a lifelong treatment.

2. Supplements can be an alternative for a hypothyroid condition. In mild cases of hypothyroid, adding nutrients to your diet such as iodine, selenium, Vitamin A, and L-tyrosine can help. You should only take these alternatives under supervision from your physician.

3. Foods such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower can impair the uptake of iodine into the thyroid and affect the thyroid function. These vegetables are Brassica vegetables.

4. Homeopathic treatment for hypothyroid, combined with prescription drugs, has been shown to be successful. Homeopathic treatment can include medicines such as Iodum or Lycopus. These should be monitored by your physician and a Homeopath.

5. Thyroid functions can be affected by your environment. Herbicides, pesticides and also the chemicals in cigarettes can disrupt the hormones that control your thyroid.

6. Acupuncture treatments can be used to relieve the symptoms of aches and pains associated with a hypothyroid condition.
