Healing Powers Of Crystals

Crystals such as quartz, jade and lapis have long been admired as inexpensive and attractive accessories. But crystals and stones are also used medicinally. The famous psychic Edgar Cayce was one of the first people to introduce the power of crystals to western culture. According to Cayce, members of the ancient civilization of Atlantis used crystals extensively for everything from healing to power.

How it Works

The primary principle behind crystal healing involves the crystals' ability to absorb energy and vibrations. In addition, crystals can release energy and vibration. Healers use crystals to draw out the negative energy that is causing certain ailments within the body and replace that negativity with positive healing energy. Different crystals are directly linked to different parts of the body through color and chemical composition.

Techniques

There are several different techniques for utilizing the healing powers of crystals. One of the most common ways crystals can be used for healing is called the pouch method. The patient wears two to four crystals associated with his condition in a pouch close to his body. Other healing methods include crystal elixirs made by soaking cleaned crystals in distilled water for 24 hours in the sun. The crystal releases some of its healing capacity into the water, which is then ingested or used to cleanse a specific condition. Another form of crystal therapy includes the "laying of stones." In this form of healing, the practitioner will lay crystals along the chakra energy points to address corresponding conditions.

Crystals and Their Links to Ailments

According to PeacefulMind.com, an alternative medicine resource, certain crystals are specifically linked to certain ailments. For example, amethyst, bloodstone, fluorite, labradorite, quartz and ruby are used to treat addictions; blood stone and quartz crystals help balance the chakras; and tiger's eye is a self-awareness-inducing stone. Crystals are used to address physical problems as well. Quartz and ruby are used to address chronic pain,;agate, chrysoprase, peridot and ruby are used to reduce fevers; and aventurine, blue sodalite, and green tourmaline help with high blood pressure.

Chakra and Crystals

There are seven chakras throughout the body and each one is associated with a specific color and various bodily attributes. Crystals are similarly associated with specific colors and functions. For example, the first chakra is the Root Chakra; this energy point is low on the spinal column and is red. Red stones offer protection, courage and energy. According to PeacefulMind.com, a patient suffering from abuse may be treated by placing a red stone, such as lodestone or ruby, at the Root Chakra.

Cleansing Crystals

The inherent ability to absorb and release energy gives crystals an immense capacity for healing. However, it also means that crystals must be cleansed regularly. New crystals that may have been handled extensively as well as crystals used to absorb negativity need to be purified to reduce the potential for releasing negativity. According to Healing Journeys, a healing energy website, crystals may be cleansed using sunlight, moonlight, smoke, rain water, and positive intention or deep meditation. Some crystals are also sensitive to water, heat or scratching.
