Correct Erectile Disfunction

Erectile dysfunction is a condition that prevents a man from achieving and maintaining a firm erection. This prevents him from having intercourse with a partner. According to the Mayo Clinic, erectile dysfunction most often has a physical cause rather than being spurred by a psychological issue. Because it is a medical condition, there are a variety of treatments that can correct it.

Instructions

1. Make lifestyle changes that improve blood circulation. Exercise regularly, and stop smoking if you are currently a smoker. Your penis needs a good blood supply to become erect, so supporting good circulation can improve erection problems.

2. Make an appointment with your doctor to find out the exact cause of your erectile dysfunction. Most cases have a physical cause, and your doctor can pinpoint what is behind the problem in your particular case and recommend the best way to correct it.

3. Ask your doctor if you can use a medication like Viagra, Cialis or Levitra. These medications correct erectile dysfunction in many men, and they are effective for wide variety of causes. However, if you have certain underlying conditions like low blood pressure, uncontrolled high blood pressure or diabetes, they may not be appropriate for you.

4. If you cannot use another medication, ask your doctor if alprostadil is appropriate. Alprostadil can be self-administered through an injection or penile suppository. It increases blood flow to the area, resulting in a firm, sustainable erection.

5. If you don't want to use medication or cannot use it, use a penis pump. This device may be hand operated or battery powered. It uses a vacuum to help you achieve an erection and maintains it with a constriction ring or band. It can be used for up to 30 minutes at a time, and you should be able to perform intercourse while the ring or band is in place.

6. Discuss surgical options with your doctor. If other methods are not effective at correcting your erectile dysfunction, you have two surgical options. If your problem is caused by poor circulation, consider vascular surgery. This will eliminate blockages. Penile implants are another option, and they are effective for a variety of causes. They are implanted in the penis and inflated to achieve an erection.
