Taking Essential Oils For Weightloss

Choice

Pick out at least three to five different essential oils that you will use throughout the day. Keep a supply of them at your house, at work or school, and even if the car if you are on the road much of the day. Regular use of essential oils is imperative for weight loss purposes. The science behind the use of essential oils for weight loss has to do with the effect of smell upon appetite. Studies conducted by the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Institute of Chicago indicate that inhaling certain scents throughout the day can actually inhibit the appetite.

Temptation

Each time during the day that you begin to feel hungry, open one of the bottles of oil and deeply inhale the aroma into your nostrils. Do this three or four times under each nostril. When you sit down to consume a nutritious and balanced meal, inhale before eating. Make sure to cap the bottle afterward, because part of the secret of essential oils is not allowing the scents to become part of the constant aromatic scheme around you.

Effective Oils

Choose the oils that appeal to you the most, but allow for experimentation to see which oils may actually work to reduce the temptation the most. Among the most commonly used essential oils for weight loss are anise, bitter almond, black pepper, marjoram, dill weed and coriander seed. You might also consider adding a fragrance like green tea, peach or maple as your fourth choice.

Oils That Burn

Certain essential oils should only be used with caution and then only sparingly as they have a tendency to burn the nostrils of some people when inhaled directly. These oils include ajowan, cinnamon, cloves, garlic, ginger, juniper, nutmeg, oregano, sassafras and thyme.

Migraine Warning

If you experience migraines, use essential oils with extreme caution, regardless of the reason you are using them. Migraines typically are caused by a trigger mechanism, and for many people that trigger is associated with scents. The good news is that migraines triggered by scents are usually associated with specific aromas, so even if one essential oil aggravates the headache, another may have no effect.

Considerations

It is important to remember that essential oil therapy alone will not cause weight loss. You must eat balanced meals and exercise regularly if you hope to lose any weight. The addition of essential oil therapy is intended only to assist in the inhibition of eating when you really are not hungry. These oils cannot replace a healthy meal, nor can they reduce the necessity for exercise.
