Home Remedies To Relieve Gout Pain

Gout pain is caused because of excess uric acid deposits that are concentrated around joints and cause pain. Gout can be treated with simple household remedies that can be effective. Some people are more prone to gout, such as those who eat and drink heavily. Obesity and weight gain are also triggering factors. People who lead a sedentary lifestyle or eat a lot of animal protein, such as fatty meat, are more prone to gout. High blood pressure, urinary and kidney problems can also cause symptoms.

Diet

Controlling your diet, such as avoiding alcohol and fatty foods, can help control gout symptoms. One home remedy for gout is to eat cherries, which are high in vitamin C and help eliminate deposits. Eating 10 to 15 cherries per day is recommended, as well as drinking cherry juice once a day. Apples and safflower in capsule form may also help alleviate gout symptoms.

Lemon Water

Lemon juice is another home remedy for gout. Squeeze the juice from a half lemon in a glass of water and drink three times a day at regular intervals. Lemons contains vitamin C, which helps dissolve the excess uric acid deposits.

Plenty of Fluids

Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water per day. This washes the uric acid crystals from the kidneys and also helps prevent kidney stones. Half a cup of French bean juice once a day for 30 days is helpful to reduce the inflammation of gout pains. Cherry juice, apple juice, orange juice or other citrus juices are also good for eliminating uric acid deposits.

Topical Treatments

Mustard powder mixed with equal parts of whole wheat powder can be made into a paste with a dab of water and applied to areas that ache. Leave the paste on overnight.

For a foot soak, try 1/3 cup of ground ginger and soak it with water for about 30 minutes. Be sure to wash it off well or it can cause irritation. This causes you to sweat and eliminate the uric acid in the area.

Warm castor oil on a flannel cloth is another good home remedy for gout. Place it over the area and wrap it in plastic and apply a heating pad for relief.

You can also boil 1 tsp. of pepper in a cup of vinegar and a cup of water and dab it on a painful joint and leave it on for two to three hours.

Immediate Relief

You can take 2 tsp. of organic apple cider vinegar with 2 tsp. of honey twice a day and the pain should go away or be minimal after a few hours. Bananas are another good remedy, so eat several for three to four days--the phosphorus will react with the uric acid and eliminate it. Eating several cloves of garlic daily is also helpful.
