A child bed wetting problem is frustrating for both parent and child and both wonder stop child bed wetting problem. The child will usually be frustrated, upset and embarrassed by bedwetting as they become older and the parent frustrated and concerned for their child. Here are some steps that can help put you on the road to finding out stop the child bed wetting problem or at least relieve your concerns as to whether it is normal.
Instructions
1. The ability to stay dry at night is a developmental issue often with younger children. A child of four is not really of an age to expect to stay dry all night even if their siblings did, they may not be ready. Some children can and some can not. It might be considered inappropriate to try and stop child bedwetting or even to consider it a problem at such a very early age. The very first step before embarking on any method to stop child bedwetting is to check with a pediatrician and see if it really is a problem. Often the child bed wetting problem resolves itself. A pediatrician's advice can be important at this stage.
2. If the pediatrician agrees that the child could use some help to stop the bedwetting problem then they also probably also have some suggestions. The checkup can help rule out physical causes as well like infections, sleep apnea, or even diabetes. With children under 6 or 7 the pediatrician may advise waiting as a means to stop the child bed wetting problem. Many cases of child bed wetting resolve on their own as the child develops the appropriate motor and neurological control for nighttime dryness.
3. If the child shows no physical problems, then often behavioral modification or training is suggested with primary enuresis (the child has never been consistently dry at night). One of the most popular methods currently, is to use a bedwetting alarm. This is a stop bed wetting method that has been shown to have good clinical success rates in resolving the child bed wetting problem. The theory behind this stop bed wetting technique is that the alarm sounds at the first drop of moisture and the sound will cause the child to reflexively stop urinating. During the first phases of this technique, a parent will probably have to help the child to the bathroom. On the negative side of this technique, is that though it may be effective in helping to stop the child bed wetting problem over time, it will also wake everyone in the house up for a while.
4. Dry bed training is a less clinically researched, but very popular method. With dry bed training fluid intake is limited before bed. During the night, the child woke by an adult at preset intervals and taken to the bathroom to urinate. The upside to this stop child bed wetting method is that no equipment is required. On the negative side of this method is there is no guarantee the bed will awake to a dry bed. The few clinical trials conducted with this method indicate it might be slightly less effective as a stop child bed wetting than using a bedwetting alarm.
