Longterm Effects Of Nexium

Long-term use of Nexium can cause gastritis and possibly liver damage. This medication is not really meant to be used long-term and any extended use should only be done under your doctor's care. There are some serious allergic reactions and side effects to this medication.


Benefits


Nexium is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease, as well as reduce the occurence of gastric ulcers.


Side Effects


The side effects of taking Nexium can include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain and headaches.


Drug Interactions


Nexium may interfere with some drug absorption, especially those having to do with the gastric system. Consult your doctor before taking nexium if you take digoxin, valium, blood thinners or plavix.


Time Frame


Nexium is only meant to be used for four to eight weeks. Occasionally, if the doctor sees that it is necessary, you may be allowed to use it for an additional four to eight weeks. You must take it at least an hour before eating.


Warning


There have been cases of severe allergic reaction to Nexium. If you develop swelling of the face or lips, seek professional help immediately. Do not use it if you are allergic to Vermox or Albenza.
