Cope With Noise Anxiety

Noise anxiety is a condition in which certain types of noise or loud noise produces symptoms of anxiety in people who are sensitive to noise. Noise is all around us. It affects our lives on a daily basis whether we realize it or not. If you suffer from noise anxiety, there are ways to cope.

Instructions

Cope with Noise Anxiety

1. Turn down the volume on the television or stereo. Don't turn them down so low that you have to strain your ears to hear them but keep the sound at a comfortable level.

2. Ask friends or family members to lower their voices. If you ask nicely, most people will respond in a like manner. When several people are talking, the noise level can rise. People tend to talk over each other without realizing how loud they are being.

3. Make quiet time for yourself. Go to your bedroom or other area where you can be alone and enjoy the solitude. Close the door, put on some headphones with soft relaxing music or nature sounds, lie back and relax.

4. Replace distracting noise with calming noise. If you live in the city where noise never dies down, you may have difficulty falling asleep. Try replacing distracting noise such as traffic sounds with relaxing sounds such as the humming of a fan. Play soft music or sleep with earplugs. Some people can sleep with the television on as long as the volume isn't too high.

5. Choose an environment that's right for you. If you are considering buying a house or moving there are a lot of factors to consider before you settle on the right place. Choosing the right location can be even more important for someone who suffers from noise anxiety. Consider the environment and how well you will adapt. For instance, if you suffer from noise anxiety you may be happier and healthier living in the country rather than choosing a place in a large city. That's something you will want to consider when choosing a place to live.
