Make A Camping Cot

Camping cots are simple lightweight beds that are convenient for camping. Depending on the kind of camping cot you make or buy you will be able to fold them up or easily place them in the back of your SUV. Camping cots can be simple to make.

Instructions

1. Make a rectangle with two pieces of 6-foot-long wood and two pieces of 2-by-3 inch wood. The two longer pieces of wood will go on the sides of the camping cot while the two shorter pieces will be on top and bottom of rectangle. Nail the corners together. Reinforce the corners with a strip of sheet metal.

2. Attach the hinges. These will be placed between the legs and the frame. This will enable the legs to be stabilized and sturdy. The hinge will have a total of four holes. Use the top two holes to either drill or hammer the nails into the frame.

3. Prepare the legs. Use the four pieces of 1 1/2-foot-long wood for the legs. Place each leg under each corner of the camping cot where the hinges were screwed in. Use the bottom two holes of the hinges to screw in the legs under each corner of the cot.

4. Nail one 2 1/2-foot-long wood in the middle of the two legs. This piece of wood will help increase bracing for the legs. Nail one of each board in the middle of two legs at the top and bottom of the cot.

5. Stretch the canvas over the cot. The canvas will need to be as tight as possible. Take each end of the canvas and tack it into the frame by pulling it underneath and sticking the heavy duty tack into it below. This will need to be done at each corner.
