Lyme Detox

Lyme Detox

Lyme disease is caused by the spirochete bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi, that is transmitted through deer tick bites. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention receive reports of more than 20,000 new lyme disease cases annually. This disease starts off with swelling at the bite site and progresses to a chronic disease if left untreated. The bacteria lives in the blood stream and produces biotoxins that increase inflammation, deprive cells of oxygen and interfere with biochemical processes. Antibiotics are used to kill the bacteria, however, the toxins usually remain. Thus, lyme disease sufferers also need a detoxification regimen with the antibiotic treatment.

Cholestyramine

You should consider adding cholestyramine to your lyme disease treatment. Cholestyramine is a toxin binder that can be used to flush your body of the spirochete biotoxins. You need your doctor to prescribe cholestyramine and you should follow your doctor's dosage recommendation. Unless otherwise directed by your physician, you should take this drug with meals and drink extra fluids while on it as cholestyramine can cause constipation.

Detox Bath

Make yourself a detox bath out of 4 cups of Epsom salts, one bottle of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, 2 tbsp of ground ginger (or fresh ginger in sock) in a tub full of warm water. Soak in the bath for about 20 to 30 minutes.

Saunas

Regular sauna use can also support your detoxification process. You should be in the sauna for about 45 minutes per session with the sauna temperature set at around 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Try to do sauna sessions regularly as sweating helps rid your body of toxins. Before starting this detox process, consult your doctor for his or her recommendation as well.

Homeopathic Medicines

Consider adding homeopathic medicines designed to support drainage and detoxification of the liver, kidneys and lymphatic systems to your treatment regimen. These can provide a good base for your body's natural ability to detoxify. You can also take liver supporting nutrients such as NAC (N-acetyl-cysteine), Alpha-Lipoic acid and TMG. Additionally, consider taking Chlorella pyrenoidosa and cilantro tincture to help detoxify neurotoxins and metals such as mercury from your body. There are also products out there for heavy metal detoxification, which should always be used under the supervision of a medical professional.
