Acupressure Treatments

Acupressure Treatments

Acupressure is a non-invasive form of the ancient Chinese method of acupuncture. Instead of placing specialized acupuncture needles along particular meridian lines on the body, a slight pressure is made upon acupressure points of the human body. Acupressure points can be located and treated by using pressure from an individual's hands, other parts of the body and acupressure devices or tools.

What does Acupressure Accomplish?

Acupressure is said to work in a similar way to acupuncture. Within Chinese alternative medicine, it is believed that the human body contains 14 main meridian lines. If any of the meridian lines are blocked it is also believed that illnesses and ailments can be caused. By releasing these common meridian blockages through acupressure, the body is then able to heal itself.

Acupressure Tools

Tools or aids that can be used to perform acupressure as an alternative treatment can include an Acu Ball, massage rollers, energy rollers and a non-invasive needle called 'Teishein'. Acupressure tools are inexpensive and anyone can learn acupressure points and treat themselves.

Variety

There are a variety of ailments and illnesses that are said to benefit from from acupressure such as stress, muscular tension, headaches and overall wellness. Acupressure can be applied to any part of the body. Each possible symptom or ailment has a specific aligning acupressure spot on the body. For example if you can feel a migraine coming on, the loose skin between your right thumb and forefinger is the place to squeeze or apply pressure for headache relief.

Types

Receiving acupressure treatment can be a therapeutic experience. Shiatsu is a type of acupressure treatment combined with massage. The pressure points are worked upon quite deeply. Reflexology is another form of acupressure treatment, although reflexology only requires the feet and hands to be worked on.

Booking Acupressure Treatments

When you book your appointment for a relaxing session of acupressure, ensure that the attending therapist is first qualified to perform acupressure on another individual and that they are registered. Upon arrival you will be asked a series of health-related questions. It is important to be honest for medical reasons as certain individuals may not be able to receive acupressure, due to serious illness or pregnancy.
