create a Life To-Do List
You've heard of bucket lists? 40 by 40's? Well this is a list of pointers for you to assemble a list of goals. There are a number of uses for a list like this, so feel free to personalize. At the bottom of this posting you will also find a list of resources for websites and companies that provide services around tracking these lists. Great for if you've just graduated, gotten a divorce, or are ready for a fresh start!
Instructions
1. Decide how much time you want to give yourself. Is this a long term project? Is this a "before I turn 30? 40?" Is this a, 100 things in 100 days?
2. Once you know how much time you have, consider what you have on your plate between now and then. Are you planning on having kids (meaning less free time)? Are you expecting to have more disposable income (meaning less limitations for your goals)? What is your budget for a project like this?
3. Don't be afraid to think big! Especially if you've given yourself a long period of time, it's better to dream big than sell yourself short on your goals.
4. Begin thinking about things you'd like to do in each of the various areas listed below. Think about each area and what you'd like to improve on, accomplish, or change. Write these down! These are your goals!
5. TRAVEL: See friends and family? Always wanted to go somewhere? Conquer a fear of flying? Sailing?
6. LANGUAGES: Improve on one you already know? Learn a new one? Hold a conversation for 10 minutes?
7. READING: classics you've never read? Bible cover to cover?
8. WRITING: Handwritten letters? Your memoir? A novel? Get published?
9. HEALTH: Lose weight? Stop smoking? Get a gym membership?
10. FAMILY: Have children? Get closer to your siblings? Reach out to a younger niece? Cousin?
11. RELATIONSHIPS/MARRIAGE: Renew your vows? Be monogamous? Propose? Go on a second honeymoon? Go to couples counseling?
12. SCHOOL/EDUCATION: Get a masters? Go back to school? Improve your GPA?
13. WORK/CAREER: Quit your job? Ask for a promotion? Go Freelance? Offer your employees healthcare?
14. SPIRITUALITY/RELIGION: Attend services more often? Learn about a new religion? Celebrate another family's holiday? Study the Bible/Torah/Koran? Travel to the holyland? Mecca?
15. MONEY/FINANCES: Open a savings account? IRA? Pay off credit card? Ask for a raise?
16. Once you've assembled your list, post it somewhere! If you own a blog, put it up there! Share pictures when you accomplish each step!
17.Take pride each time you cross something off the list. Don't get down on yourself if you can't get something done or if your life situation changes course and one of the goals is no longer possible. This is a guide- not a requirement! HAVE FUN.
