Honey is made by bees from the nectar of flowers and is comprised mostly of sugars.
Throughout history, honey has been used primarily to sweeten foods. Many feel that honey has healing properties because of its antibacterial properties. Doctors have been using honey as a dressing for skin wounds for many years. Honey is also used as a natural way to get rid of acne.
Instructions
1. Purchase a jar of honey. Though you can use any honey, many believe that Manuka honey contains additional antibacterial properties that can help diminish the bacteria the causes acne. Manuka honey can be purchased at many health food stores, some supermarkets and online at a number of retailers.
2. Wash and dry your hands. Clean hands are essential so you do not spread oils on your skin.
3. Pour 2 tbsp. of honey into a microwave-safe bowl and heat in the microwave for about 10 seconds to make a honey mask. If you have oily skin you may add 2 tsp. of lemon juice to help decrease skin oil.
4. With your fingertips spread the honey onto your facial skin. Apply the honey more heavily in areas that are broken out.
5. Leave the honey on for your face for 15 minutes. Then wash off using a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil or Cerave. Pat dry.
6. Repeat these steps on a daily basis till acne is cleared. Once acne is under control do a honey mask two to three times a week.
7. Spot treat large painful pimples by putting a dab of honey directly on the pimple and covering with a small bandage. Leave on at night and wash off in the morning.
