Use Isolation Precautions In Nursing Care

Isolation precautions should be used if you know your patient has an infection that is communicable or if you suspect that a patient has a communicable infection. Use isolation precautions until you know the patient is no longer infectious.

Instructions

1. Wash your hands frequently to prevent spreading the infection or disease. Hand washing is a simple way to follow isolation precautions.

2. Wear gloves when you will be touching the patient or the patient's body fluids. After you remove the gloves wash your hands.

3. Use a mask if the infection is air borne to prevent you getting the infection or spreading the infection to other patients.

4. Wear a gown to protect any exposed skin you have. It is important to wear a gown if you are likely to get any body fluids on you.

5. Have the patient in a private room. You don't want to spread the infection to other patients.

6. Use a pocket CPR mask if CPR is needed to prevent you from getting the infection. When CPR is done some patient's vomit.

7. Put needles into bio hazard containers immediately after the medication injection is done. Never recap a needle. Recapping a needle increases your chance of accidentally sticking your self with the needle.
