Head lice are tiny insect pests that feast on the blood of your scalp. When lice bite your scalp it causes itchiness. The itch can become intense as the amount of lice in your hair increases. You can buy lice- killing solutions from the pharmacy, but they contain pesticides you may want to avoid. There is a natural way to get rid of lice in the privacy of your own home.
Instructions
1. Open a jar of mayonnaise that has not yet been refrigerated. You can use a refrigerated jar, but it will feel very cold on your scalp.
2. Saturate your hair with the mayonnaise. This will be easier for those with short hair. If you have long hair, make sure you spread the mayonnaise all the way from the root to the tip of each hair. Smear some mayonnaise behind your ears and down the back of your neck, the spots that lice love the most.
3. Cover your hair with a shower cap and wait two hours. During this time, the mayonnaise will kill lice by smothering them.
4. Rinse out as much of the mayonnaise as you can, then pour some vinegar over your hair to help remove the oil in the mayonnaise. Rinse out the vinegar and shampoo as you normally would.
5. Use a lice comb while your hair is still wet to remove any nits that may still be in your hair. These nits or lice eggs will hatch in seven days if they are not removed. If you have long hair, get a helper to part the hair into small sections and comb one portion at a time. Wipe the comb on a paper towel frequently.
6. Comb your hair with a lice comb each day until you are sure all of the nits have been removed.
