Untreated Stroke Symptoms

Stroke is a serious condition that requires immediate medical treatment to prevent or lessen serious disabilities and brain damage. Untreated stroke symptoms may only worsen; therefore, treatment is necessary to enhance the stroke victim's future quality of life. During a stroke millions of brain cells die affecting normal functioning of the mind and body.

Warning

Often there is no warning of a impending stroke; it just happens. However, the sooner the victim gets to a hospital to be treated, the better the chances are for recovery and rehabilitation.

Identification

A sudden stabbing pain in the head may be a stroke symptom if accompanied by facial numbness or tingling, a stiff neck, pain between the eyes, vomiting, or nausea. These symptoms are of a "hemorrhagic" stroke, and need to be evaluated at the nearest emergency room.

Function

Sudden loss of speech, difficulty talking or the inability to understand or comprehend conversation is a symptom of untreated stroke. Often the left side of the body is affected by paralysis during and after a stroke, in which feeling and function may, or may not, return after therapy.

Considerations

A stroke victim may suffer blurred or decreased vision or double vision and may seem confused and disoriented. The victim may not realize what is happening and act stressful. Memory, especially short term memory, will be affected by a stroke.

Features

Difficulty swallowing may be a symptom of untreated stroke as well as drooling. Suddenly being uncoordinated and having an inability to balance is a sign of stroke. Black outs, seizures and fainting spells may ocur due to oxygen deficiency issues associated with having a stroke.
