Acupressure Stress Elimination Techniques

Acupressure is a major component of traditional Chinese medicine that has been utilized for around 5,000 years. It is based on the concept that the body has a superhighway of energy meridians which can be stimulated by touching corresponding pressure points, thereby clearing blockages and releasing energy flow. This flow promotes healing and harnesses the body's natural restorative capacities. The elimination of stress and anxiety is one of the most common uses of acupressure.








Acupressure Techniques for Eliminating Stress


There are three main acupressure points for dealing with stress. One of these is located on the inside of the wrist, directly in line with the little finger. Another point is situated on the top of the middle finger, above the fingernail on the side nearest the thumb. The last point is on the bottom of the foot, located in the center of the sole at the back of the ball.


To utilize the first pressure point, find the exact area by locating the large fold of the wrist. Using your thumb as a ruler, measure two thumb-widths down from the wrist's crease, toward the elbow. The point sits between the two tendons you can feel in that area. Using gentle pressure with your finger, make small, circular movements directly into the pressure point. Do this for one minute and repeat on the opposite arm.


The second acupressure point can be found easily on the middle finger, near the nail on the surface closest to the thumb. Again, use your finger to create mild pressure on the area. While it should not be painful, you should certainly feel the force of the finger. Rub circularly for one minute and replicate on the other hand. You will also find this point helps to quell troubling emotions and memory problems.


The acupressure point on the sole of the foot can be centralized by placing one foot on the opposite knee. Feel the ball of the foot, and you will locate the point just under the ball. With this point, you should push your thumb firmly into the area, making no circular movements, for one to two minutes. The firmness of the pressure on the point should produce a level of tolerable pain. Repeat on the other foot. This point is particularly useful in generating deep, restful sleep and is an ideal way to unwind after a stressful day.


By stimulating any or all of these acupressure points, a sense of calm is released through the energy meridians in the body, restoring balance and a feeling of well-being.
