Difference Between Lumineers & Veneers

Cosmetic dentistry offers many options to help you improve the look of your smile. Veneers represent one option. One patented type of veneers is known as Lumineers.

Veneers

Dental veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that a dentist can place over a discolored or damaged tooth. Typically, a dentist will need to remove some of your tooth in order to have the veneer fit and look natural beside your other teeth, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Lumineers

Lumineers is the name of one specific type of veneer. Thinner than traditional veneer material, they may be applied without removing part of your tooth, according to Lumineers.com.

Considerations

Veneers often require three visits to the dentist, and the process that removes a portion of the affected teeth is not reversible. The application of Lumineers requires two visits to the dentist and because no portion of the teeth is removed you may have them taken out if necessary or desired.
