Treatments Using Peppermint Oil


Peppermint oil is a diverse essential oil and should be in everyone's medicine cabinet or first aid kit. The essential oil has positive effects on nearly the whole body and is an adaptogenic herb for the whole family.


History








Peppermint is used as flavoring for toothpaste, mouthwash, liqueurs, soaps, perfumes and sauces. The herb has been used medicinally for thousands of years.








Uses


Used for asthma, bronchitis, colds, flu other respiratory illnesses. It is an antispasmodic for irritable bowel syndrome, digestion, cramps, and vomiting. The cooling effects make peppermint oil suitable for all types of headaches and migraine.


Effects


Works with digestive, lymphatic, nervous, and respiratory systems. On the skin, peppermint is an analgesic and helps cut the itch of insect bites or relieves muscle aches and headache.


Use


Headache or chest congestion: mix 5 drops to 1 tbsp. base oil and rub on neck, temples or chest.


Nausea, motion sickness or digestive upsets: inhale the aroma straight from the bottle.


Fun Fact


To repel mice and rats, place a few drops on cotton balls or in soda bottle caps and place throughout the house.

Avoid contact with the eyes, keep away from children, if pregnant, consult with a trained aromatherapist before use, and avoid use in cases of epilepsy and heart disease.
