Report Nursing Home Negligence

Discovering your loved one is suffering from nursing home negligence is just as distressing as finding out about abuse. According to IQ Nursing Homes, neglect is more common in nursing homes and is defined as improper care of residents. Your loved one may be incapable of defending himself or may be afraid to speak up. It is then up to you to report the negligence for the safety of your loved one.

Instructions

1. Collect evidence of negligence. Take photographs of any bed sores, poor grooming, unsanitary conditions or any other signs of neglect.

2. Ask other residents if needs are not being met. Write down in a journal any signs of medication errors, wandering of patients or if staff members are slow to respond to requests. Record specific times and dates and the names of staff members on duty.

3. Give your information to the nursing home administrator. Fill out a claim against the nursing home, as suggested by Nursing Home Abuse Resource.

4. Contact Adult Protective Services. You can file a report through the National Center on Elder Abuse. Report your evidence to an advocate.
