Prevent Snoring

Are you a snorer? If your partner is constantly complaining about your snoring, it may be time to look into this problem further. Snoring can be embarrassing for you and cause a lack of sleep for your loved one. Once you assess the cause of your snoring, you can finally fix it to regain some peace and quiet when you sleep.

Instructions

1. Focus on exercising and losing weight. Your diet can greatly affect your body in many ways. A combination of exercising, losing weight and eating right can help your breathing at night. Avoid eating big meals right before sleeping.

2. Change your sleeping position or the surface you are lying on. The position that you are sleeping in may be causing you to snore more. Sleeping on your side is better for snorers than on the back and stomach because breathing is easier. If the surface that you are sleeping on makes you want to sleep on your back and stomach rather than the side, you may want to change up your sleeping area but try a different pillow first.

3. Consider correcting injuries or sickness. Any abnormality in the nose area may contribute to snoring such as a broken nose. You may want to see a doctor to help correct this issue. Tonsils and adenoids may be enlarged and in turn making you work harder to breathe while sleeping. See an ear, nose and throat specialist. Even congestion from being sick may be to blame but this should go away as you get better.

4. Refrain from taking medication or drinking alcohol. If you take medication or drink alcohol, this may be relaxing you too much during your rest time, thus causing you to snore in excess. Avoid alcohol before going to sleep.

5. Find out about sleep apnea. This is a serious breathing problem that only a doctor can diagnose and treat.
