Lasik Postoperative Instructions

LASIK surgery decreases or eliminates the use of prescription glasses or contact lenses. A laser permanently changes the cornea's shape, creating better vision. After surgery, there are several things included in the healing process.

Immediately

Immediately following surgery, your eyes may burn or itch, or you may feel like something is in your eye. Do not rub the eye, as the cornea has not adhered at this point.

Daily Functions

For 1 week, do not let water hit your face directly. Mascara and eyeliner should also be avoided. If you need to wipe your eye, gently use a soft tissue.

Activities

Do not overdo any television watching or reading, as it may strain the eye at first. Driving is acceptable with caution. Strenuous activities should be fine, especially if you wear protective eyewear.

Vision

Within 2 days, you may resume driving and working. Because everyone heals differently, take precautions to not strain your eyes. Using glasses can be helpful, as it might take a week to heal.

Follow-Up Appointments

Follow-ups should take place after 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, then 3 months, 6 months and 1 year. The doctor will check your vision along with the health of your eye and cornea.
