Correctly Use Compression Socks

Compression socks help your legs keep healthy by promoting circulation and reducing your risk of developing a potentially dangerous blood clot. Wear as directed by your doctor. If you know correctly apply compression socks, you are more likely to avoid medical complications.


Instructions


1. Apply silicone lotion, cornstarch powder, or talcum powder to your legs. This step isn't necessary but applying one of these lotions or powders does help ease the sock up the leg.


2. If you have toeless compression socks, place a slip sock or rubber glove on your foot. This helps the sock slide over the foot. When the sock is fully on, you can pull the slip sock or glove out through the open toe.


3. Place your arm in the compression sock.


4. Turn the compression sock inside out so that all of the sock is inside out except for the toe.








5. Place your toe inside the compression sock.


6. Roll the sock up to over your ankle, using a slow, smoothing motion.








7. Roll the sock up to over your ankle, using a slow, smoothing motion.
