Indian women should allow hair to dry naturally in a braid.
Proper care and maintenance of Indian hair will keep it soft and smooth, and allow it to age gracefully. Indian hair is usually thick and sometimes coarse, which means it needs basic and deep conditioning on a regular basis. Keep hair in tip-top condition and enjoy the natural beauty of your Indian hair.
Instructions
1. Condition every time you wash hair. Focus on the bottom half of the hair, as applying conditioner to the roots can weigh hair down and reduce volume. Apply conditioner primarily on the ends of hair to reduce split ends and keep hair shiny.
2. Deep condition your hair once a week. For those with very dry or coarse hair, deep conditioning can be done up to three times per week. Deep conditioners penetrate the hair follicle and provide more moisture than standard conditioners. Allow deep conditioner to soak into the hair for at least five minutes and keep it on the bottom half of the hair, just as with standard conditioner.
3. Avoid excessive hot tools, which can damage the hair. Hot tools include hot rollers, flat irons, curling irons and hair dryers. Use hot tools at most every few days. Always use a heat protector spray on the hair before using a hot tool. Allow the heat protector spray to dry thoroughly before applying a hot tool so the tool doesn't fry your hair.
4. Allow hair to dry naturally at least a few times per month, giving hair a break from products and hot styling tools. Since Indian hair is thick and can be difficult to manage when wet, pull it back into a slick, low ponytail. Braid the hair and then secure it at the end of the braid. Wrap the braid around the base of the ponytail and pin it with a few bobby pins to keep hair out of your face while it dries naturally.
5. Use a boar bristle brush, which will distribute the hair's oils and prevent breakage.
