Lamp Light Therapy

Light has been used for its curative properties for centuries, but people are only now beginning to see its true value in helping to heal a variety of ailments and conditions. Lamp light therapy is a specific type of light therapy that uses lamp light of various intensities and wavelengths.

Function

The body reacts to light in a variety of ways. Scientists have discovered that exposure to lamp light, especially ultraviolet, can activate and deactivate various enzymes and hormones in the body.

Seasonal Affective Disorder

There are some people who are especially affected by lack of light during winter months and can become depressed. While sunlight is preferred, lamp light has been shown to increase the levels of serotonin and help alleviate this disorder.

Jaundice

Many babies are born with a touch of jaundice, a yellowing of the skin and eyes, caused by an excess of bilirubin. Children undergo white light therapy which decreases the bilirubin and causes it to be excreted through urine or bowel movements.

Skin Conditions

Eczema, acne and psoriasis have been shown to be alleviated or reduced after being hit by ultraviolet radiations. UV lamps are most commonly associated with tanning beds, but their healing abilities are far-reaching.

Dangers

Lamp light therapy is not dangerous for the most part, but excessive exposure to the ultraviolet spectrum can lead to skin cancer, skin damage and vitamin deficiency.
