What Are The Lasting Symptoms From A Stroke

Stroke, which is also called a brain attack, can cause you to have permanent complications that affect your ability to care for yourself and your home. Even if you receive medical treatment as soon as possible after a stroke, you can still have lingering mental and physical effects that can last for the rest of your life. According to the National Library of Medicine and the American Stroke Association, the lasting symptoms of a stroke include vision problems and loss of coordination.

Speech Disorders

Your speech may become difficult to understand after you have a stroke, and you may not be able to communicate exactly what you want to say.

Dysphagia

Dysphagia is a medical term for difficulty swallowing, and this disorder can last for several months to the rest of your life after having a stroke, resulting in malnutrition and weight loss.

Confusion

You may permanently lose your ability to understand a map or directions. You may become confused about where you are located at times as the result of a stroke.

Weakness

After a stroke, your muscles may lose strength, and your endurance for physical activity may decrease. These effects may persist for months or years.

Paralysis

Paralysis is a symptom of stroke that may be a permanent condition, and it usually affects one side of your body or face, making movement and expression difficult.

Vision Loss

Blurry vision is a symptom that may first occur while you are having a stroke, and this symptom may persist as visual disorders and vision loss.
