Prevent mosquito bites by properly hanging your mosquito net.
Aside from the annoying itchiness that comes with a mosquito bite, you can also contract a deadly disease like malaria. Mosquito nets are effective anywhere, but are especially important in places where malaria is present. Nothing But Nets, a nonprofit organization that provides mosquito nets to malaria-affected areas, reports that nets can reduce diseases like malaria greatly because they cut off contact between humans and mosquitoes.
Instructions
1. Measure the area you are covering to make sure the net you buy is the correct size. Buying a net that is too large or too small may allow mosquitoes to find openings and get into the protected area. Measure the length and width of the area, and then measure how high the ceiling is from the floor.
2. Screw hooks into the ceiling, then hang the ropes attached to the corners, or the center of the top of the mosquito net, to the hook or hooks. This will help make sure the net does not fall.
3. Allow the mosquito net to hang about 1 foot below the top of the mattress or even all the way to the floor. If the net is too short, make the rope at the top of the net longer by making a loop with more rope, and attaching it to the existing rope. This should still give you plenty of room under the net, and will better protect you. Mosquitoes will not be able to fly in under the net.
4. Tuck the net under the mattress if it is placed over a bed to ensure mosquitoes cannot fly in and bite you. Do this when you get into bed for the night, and when you leave the bed. If a mosquito finds a way into the net, it might not find its way out. Keep the space enclosed as often as possible.
