Make Homemade Corn Filled Hand Warmers

Hand warmers are ideal for cold fingers on chilly days. You can purchase them at the store for several dollars a piece, but these hand warmers are only good for a few hours and then must be thrown away. Instead, make your own corn-filled hand warmers that not only retain heat but can be reused again and again.

Instructions

1. Fill the sock with dried field corn. Leave about 2 inches at the top of the sock empty. Make sure that the field corn is dried or you will end up with popcorn the first time you heat your hand warmer.

2. Sew the top of the sock closed. Use tiny loop stitches and make sure that they are very close together so that the corn does not fall out.

3. Tie a length of ribbon tightly around the top of the sock. Tie it just above where the corn ends in the sock. This not only makes your hand warmer a little more decorative, but it also add extra security for keeping the corn in place.

4. Microwave your hand warmers. The length of time you need to get them hot will depend on your preferences and your microwave. Start out with 30 seconds on high. If that is not hot enough, add another 30 seconds until you reach your optimum temperature. Record the length of time that you microwaved your hand warmers so that you can quickly and easily heat them up whenever you wish.
