Lomi Lomi massage has been used in Hawaii for centuries for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing. Also known as "loving hands massage," Lomi Lomi covers most of the body with large, flowing movements. These techniques help promote energy flow and harmony throughout the entire body. Massage schools are available to students wishing to learn the art of Hawaiian Lomi Lomi.
Aloha Massage School
Aloha Massage School, located in Kahului, Maui, has a massage program that teaches traditional Lomi Lomi massage therapy. The 12-month program begins in January and ends in July, broken into two terms. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and on Saturdays. Lomi Lomi is taught for 40 hours of the program. Other subjects include anatomy and physiology, jorei, shiatsu, reflexology, aromatherapy, prenatal massage and chair massage.
Hawaiian Therapies
Hawaiian Therapies offers Lomi Lomi classes taught by Alice Belusko, who has over 20 years experience in this massage. Belusko lived and studied Hawaiian culture and healing traditions for 10 years and now teaches what she has learned in Southern Florida and across the country. Beginner and advanced classes, and a combination class with both beginner and advanced coursework, are available in Gainesville, Florida, Kansas City, Missouri, and Dayton, Ohio.
Heartspire School of Hawaiian Massage
Heartspire School of Hawaiian Massage, in Olympia, Washington, offers workshops on the art of Lomi Lomi massage, including an Introduction to Heartspire Lomi Lomi, where you learn the principles and story of Lomi Lomi and basic massage techniques. Heartspire Lomi Lomi teaches you the full body Lomi Lomi protocol during one- to three-day courses. A four-day Heartspire Lomi Lomi expanded workshop focuses on different aspects of relationships between parents and children and takes you on a journey through your body and soul. The couples class on Heartspire Lomi Lomi teaches massage skills to share with each other, along with the use of prayer and intention.
Touch of Aloha
Touch of Aloha is located along the Gold Coast Hinterland in Australia, and offers Lomi Lomi massage training courses. Students learn a variety of Lomi Lomi massage styles to use with their clients, including a Lomi Lomi foundation course with intensive training and a residential course that takes six days and nights to complete. Organic vegetarian meals, drinks and snacks are provided daily. Class sizes are kept small --- a maximum of six students --- to provide personal support and attention to each participant. A course certificate and academic transcript is given at the end of the course.
