Problems Sleeping With A Tempurpedic Pillow

The right pillow can provide a restful sleep

Tempur-pedic pillows are available in various styles and sizes, depending on consumer's needs to prevent and relieve back, neck and shoulder pain. The manufacturer claims the pillow is made of high-tech visco-elastic material researched extensively by NASA to provide maximum sleep comfort. However, aside from its high price, there are a number of problems associated with sleeping with a Tempur-pedic pillow.

Too Firm

Firm pillows may be difficult to sleep on

Doctors often recommend Tempur-pedic pillows to arthritis and sleep apnea sufferers. However, the drawback to Tempur-pedic pillows is that the pillow material is of such high density. Although more durable than traditional pillows, Tempur-pedic pillows feel too firm against the body and initially cause neck and back pain to sleep on. It takes longer to break in than a traditional pillow. In addition, the firm material pushes against the CPAP masks that apnea sufferers wear to sleep.

Odor

Tempur-pedic pillows may have a strong odor

Users of Tempur-pedic pillows often complain about the odor. The manufacturer claims the odor is from its "unique manufacturing process" and disappears in a few days. However, many users experience the odor for a few weeks.

Heat

Users of Tempur-pedic material feel hot

Although the manufacture claims that the pillow material is breathable and self-ventilating, users have complained that the Tempur-pedic material makes them hot. The increased heat is due to the high density of the material. In addition, because the material is designed to fit your body by absorbing and distributing your body weight, your body makes more contact with the material instead of being exposed to air.

Health Concerns

Tempur-pedic pillows may cause aches and pains

The synthetic material that the pillow is made from may cause reactions such as rashes, headaches, eye irritations and sinus problems. According to Chem-Tox, an agency that researches effects of chemicals and pesticides on human health, the synthetic chemicals used in the manufacturing process in bedding materials may be toxic enough to lower the autoimmune system.

Alternative Pillow

An alternative to Tempur-pedic pillow is to purchase a memory foam pillow made from all-natural materials to avoid odors and any allergic reactions to chemicals.
