Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia is a term used to refer to a complex series of rare enzyme disorders in which the body does not use adrenal corticosteroids correctly. This problem can cause metabolic problems in those individuals suffering from the condition. This often leads to problems with regulating sodium and water balance within the body. In some situations, congenital adrenal hyperplasia can be fatal.
Instructions
Disorder Symptoms to Identify
1. Realize that there are several forms of congenital adrenal hyperplasia and therefore each type needs to go through specifically identifying methods to determine which you are suffering from. Your doctor through a series of blood tests does this testing.
2. Notice the large production of androgen in the body. In males, this is a symptom of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. It is evident in the amount of activity of the male sex organs. In women, this production of additional androgen can cause the masculinization ( the process of developing more male like genitalia) of the external sex organs.
3. Determine if you could be suffering from another form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia more commonly called Addison's Disease. Identify this condition by noticing symptoms like weakness, anorexia, irritability, darkening of the skin's color, nausea and the inability to respond to mental stress levels. In these individuals, a crisis can occur in which the individual's body will go through sodium depletion which leaves the body at high risk for dehydration and circulatory inabilities.
4. Consider female pseudohermaphroditism when a child is born with abnormalities of the genitalia that could be caused by congenital adrenal hyperplasia in which the external genitalia resembles that of a male child without testes. The reproductive organs of a female are located within. Testing can reveal if this is in fact a situation.
5. Work with your family doctor and specialists to determine if in fact congenital adrenal hyperplasia is a condition you or your child is suffering from. This rare disorder provides few symptoms, but blood tests commonly confirm the presence of the disorder.
